Hatha (physical) yoga can be performed by almost all body types, in many different stages in life, and can reflect each person's many different moods. While for some people, a more vigorous yoga flow class may seem appropriate, for others a gentle restorative or a deep stretching class may be optimal. For others still, ... their needs change daily.

Many, but not all of our classes are taught in the Iyengar method of hatha yoga, which focuses on the precise alignment of joints and muscles to bring about balance, improved strength and ease of movement. This lends itself well to students with special needs resulting from injury or chronic illness. Certified instructors belong to national and provincial associations which regulate the practice and teaching of Iyengar yoga in Ontario and Canada.

The benefits of yoga include reduced stress, improved posture and breathing, and reduction in pain. Those who practice yoga regularly tend to avoid injury and experience faster healing time. Small classes in our clean and comfortable studio allow for individualized attention. This ensures that students progress as quickly and safely as possible. Through step-by-step instruction, students learn postures to exercise all system of the body, as well as techniques for quiet relaxation and restoration.

Do Iyengar Yoga (DIY) – The focus of this class is to help you discover what and where there are limitations to the health of your body. Deepening your body awareness and improving the mechanics of the asanas (poses), we work to restore mobility, develop alignment and stability and improve strength for balance and stamina.

Restorative Yoga uses restful postures to provide the body an opportunity to renew and heal by triggering the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for the rejuvenation, regrowth and repair of our tissues; thus, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, and stimulating the immune system. This restorative class incorporates passive, supported postures leaving students feeling nourished and well rested. No matter what age or level of fitness, relaxing deeper in poses, and feeling their restorative power does wonders for the body.

Yin/Restore - This combined yin / restorative style class focuses on increasing flexibility through longer holds as well as restful, supported postures to promote rejuvenation and repair. The aim is to align the spine, condition joints and open the hips, releasing the build-up of toxins and tension held in connective tissue, along with finding the benefits of deep relaxation.

Yoga Flow - Following the vinyasa style, this more powerful, flowing practice involves synchronizing breath and movement through a progressive series of postures. When this method is practiced with patience, diligence and faith, the result is a light and strong body, increased vitality, greater inner peace and a calmer mind.

Classic Nia - This a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music. Trainings teach people how to workout without pain and enjoy the process of getting fit with movement. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities.  Using 52 basic movements and techniques that draw on a combination of Jazz, Modern and Duncan Dancestyles, Tai Chi, TaeKwonDo and Aikido, and the bodymind healing arts of Feldenkrais Method, Alexander Technique and Yoga.

Qi Gong - Often described as meditation in motion, QiGong promotes harmony of mind, body and spirit through gentle, flowing movements, while mobilizing joints and muscles.  Join one of our QiGong classes and discover how this graceful form of exercise can help reduce stress and anxiety while increasing balance, mobility and coordination.

Mindfulness Meditation - This eight-week course is offered by Mindfulness Meditation Toronto, and is not a part of our core curriculum, but we endorse the class and can help arrange your registration.
